The UAE has introduced a long-term residency visa called the ‘Blue Residency’ for environment advocates. This 10-year visa will be granted to individuals who have made “exceptional contributions and efforts” in protecting the environment.
The eligibility criteria include contributions to sustainability initiatives both within and outside the UAE.
Who Can Apply?
- Supporters of Environmental Action: This includes members of international companies, associations, and non-governmental organizations involved in environmental work.
- Global Award Winners: Individuals who have received international recognition for their contributions to environmental sustainability.
- Distinguished Activists and Researchers: Activists and researchers recognized for their significant work in environmental protection.
Visa Requirements:
- Exceptional contributions to environmental protection and sustainability.
- Membership in relevant international organizations, associations, or NGOs.
- Recognition as a global award winner in environmental sustainability.
- Proven record as a distinguished activist or researcher in the environmental field.
How to Apply:
- Application Submission: Eligible individuals must submit their applications through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security.
- Nominations: Relevant authorities can also nominate individuals for the long-term residency.
“The sustainability of our economy has become linked to the sustainability of our environment,” stated Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, during a Cabinet meeting.
This new residency scheme is part of the UAE’s initiatives to mark 2024 as the year of sustainability, continuing the country’s efforts from the previous year to promote sustainable practices.
The UAE has previously issued various residency visas:
- Golden Visas (2019): 10-year residency for investors, entrepreneurs, scientists, outstanding students, and graduates, as well as humanitarian pioneers.
- Green Visas: Five-year residency for skilled professionals, freelancers, investors, and entrepreneurs.
